Nirvana - Lost Audio Interview

Never heard before interview with Kurt Cobain from 1989

In 1989, Nirvana were unknowns - slogging the American gig circuit following the release of their debut album, Bleach, and John Robb was there to witness it.

To be published on Friday 26th October, this revealing 25-minute audio interview with Kurt Cobain will be live to stream and download at

In the interview Kurt talks about a new writing technique combining light / heavy… could be the first mention of 'Smells Like Teen Spirit.'

Kurt Cobain describes his lyrical themes of emotions, anger, negativity, conflict in relationships and more.

The interview was conducted during Nirvana's first US tour, when they were playing to around just 20 people a night.

This is the first interview in The John Robb Tapes series. Next up: Patti Smith, with some very special unheard and unedited archive interviews to follow.

Nirvana were a massive part of my adolescence. Looking forward to the rest of The John Robb Tapes too!
